The Situation

A northeast flow strengthens today as a couple of fronts approach New Zealand from the Tasman Sea, then move slowly east across the country tomorrow.The fronts are followed by a showery westerly flow on Wednesday, but southerlies spread north over the lower South Island. On Thursday, a deep low to the east of the country directs a strong southerly flow onto the east of the North Island, another low moves east past the far north and a ridge builds over the South Island. A showery southerly flow affects the North Island while a ridge covers the South Island on Friday.
