The Situation
A deep low to the east of the country passes close to the Chatham Islands today, while a ridge of high pressure spreads onto central New Zealand. The ridge shifts to the North Island tomorrow, as a weak front moves up the South Island.On Saturday a ridge of high pressure covers the North Island while a weak front moves east onto the west of the South Island. On Sunday the ridge persists over the North Island but an active front moves northeast over the south of the South Island. The front weakens over the upper South Island on Monday while a ridge of high pressure covers the rest of New Zealand.
