The Situation
A narrow ridge of high pressure moves onto New Zealand from the Tasman Sea, but another front approaches the far south later in the day. The ridge remains over northern and central New Zealand on Sunday, while the front, accompanied by strong southwesterlies, moves quickly across the south.The front, associated with strong southwesterlies, moves over the remainder of the country on Monday. The winds ease later in the day as a new ridge of high pressure moves in from the Tasman Sea. On Tuesday, the ridge shifts to the east of New Zealand, allowing a northerly flow to develop over the country, becoming strong in the south. These strong northerlies reach central New Zealand by the end of Wednesday.
