The Situation
A ridge of high pressure covers most of Aotearoa/New Zealand today while a weak front moves over the lower South Island. The ridge remains over most of the country tomorrow, while a front, preceded by strong northwesterlies, moves onto the lower the South Island late in the day.On Wednesday, the ridge remains over the North Island, while the front moves northeast over the South Island bringing cool southerlies. On Thursday, a deep subtropical low may approach the northeast of the North Island, while a ridge builds over the South Island. The South Island ridge is expected to extend over the North Island on Friday.
