The Situation

A large and complex low moves over the North Island today, then shifts offshore to the east on Thursday, passing close to the Chatham Islands. A ridge of high pressure begins to move onto mainland New Zealand later on Thursday.A ridge of high pressure covers much of the country on Friday and Saturday. A front is likely to pass over the south of the South Island on Friday. Another front should be approaching the South Island late Saturday and affect the lower South Island on Sunday while the ridge prevails over the North Island.
