The Situation

A strong northwest flow spreads over the country today as a front moves up the South Island, bringing a change to cooler southwesterlies. The front weakens as it continues up the North Island tomorrow, while a ridge of high pressure builds over the South Island from the west. The ridge extends across all of New Zealand on Monday. On Tuesday, the ridge moves away to the east, while a deepening low and associated fronts approach central New Zealand from the Tasman Sea. The low and associated fronts move onto New Zealand on Wednesday, bringing rain and strong winds to many regions.
