The Situation
A series of troughs embedded in a broad area of low pressure move slowly across the country during Saturday. On Sunday, a weak ridge covers the South Island, but a front approaches the upper North Island from the north later in the day.On Monday, the ridge remains over the South Island, but a low north of the country is expected to move southwest across the upper North Island to lie in the west of the Island later, while a front embedded in a strong east to southeast flow moves across the northeast of the North Island. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the low remains slow moving west of the country bringing periods of rain and showers to northern and western areas of New Zealand, while an associated front moves southwards along the east coast of New Zealand.
