Gale warning in effect for Stephens, Cook, Castlepoint, Abel, Grey, Milford, Puysegur, Foveaux, Chalmers, Rangitata and Conway

The Situation

Strong northwesterlies dominate the country at first. A frontal system moves over the country today, followed by a strong southwest flow. A ridge then becomes dominant on Wednesday, while a trough with associated low pressure moves north over the upper North Island. Late on Friday northerlies strengthen over the South Island as another front makes its way onto the far south, which then moves over the rest of the country on Saturday.
