A ridge of high pressure covers most of New Zealand today and tomorrow, while a weakening front moves up the South Island and onto central New Zealand.A trough embedded in a strong northwesterly flow should bring rain to southern New Zealand on Tuesday, while a ridge covers the remainder of the nation. The ridge moves to the east on Wednesday, and the trough over southern New Zealand weakens. On Thursday, the northerly flow over southern New Zealand strengthens ahead of a front approaching from the Tasman Sea, while an east to northeast flow covers the remainder of the country
