The Situation

A deep low east of the North Island directs a strong to gale southerly flow over central New Zealand. The southerly flow gradually eases today as a ridge builds over the country. A trough then spreads onto the country from the west on Saturday, followed by a southwest flow. Another ridge is expected to move onto New Zealand from the Tasman Sea later Sunday and persist on Monday.
